It would seem that 2009 was the year of the Facebook. After giving it a year, I’ve grown disenchanted with all of the changes that continue to be implemented. I cannot say I’ve really met anyone on there that I had not already met in person at some point in my life, namely through other friends. I feel that I need to draw the line between posting my educational history and personal interests and becoming force joined to some some social group because I went to some school or enjoyed a certain movie/book/activity. I also feel that it is a bit invasive for CNN to know what my friends are commenting on by proxy of Facebook.

In this age of meta data, social networking websites are trying to find the holy grail of profit by leveraging the sheer numbers of people who belong to the site. I, for one, would prefer that I not become some lab mouse for the Corporate America social networking marketing bandwagon.

I guess I’m just too old fashioned for the new social networking trends. Hell, I was blogging before blog was a word. And I wrote my own blog software long before the first line of code was written for MovableType, Wordpress and Blogspot. I don’t ChatRoulette. I don’t Twitter. I never got into MySpace. I barely used Friendster. I’m still not sure what FourSquare is, and LinkedIn annoys me.

I feel like my life has come full circle. I’m considering returning to my blogging roots. Maybe I’ll start making regular posts here again. Maybe I’ll fall off the planet again. Either way… the fact remains. I’m SOOOOOOOOO over Facebook.
